Rather than Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a Fantasy Anime . The entire group says goodbye to each other and wishes peace. However, Frieren Beyond Journey’s End is an anime of entirely different nature.
This slight change in concept gives this anime series a very different vibe than the traditional fantasy type of story does.It is not only focused on the adventure, instead it takes place after the biggest battle which is already over. The anime follows a mage called Frieren; she’s also an elf character. Elves have incredibly long life spans and so Frieren has accumulated an immense amount of magical strength.
In the past, she travelled with a group of Heroes who were working together to defeat a Demon King. This journey took ten years which is a big deal for humans but for Frieren it was just a small part of her very long life. Ten years is not a long time, it is just a fraction of her life because she would probably continue to live for thousands of years. In ten years lots of things change. As the time passes things are changed .
When Frieren meets her friends again after many years she realizes what it means to be human.Frieren meets her friends again after many years. Her friends are all older now. The relationships she ignored are coming back to haunt her. She is filled with full of regret over the choices she made.
For the time in a hundreds of years Frieren is doubting her feelings and the importance of the relationships she thought were normal.From that point on Frieren is not a fantasy show about adventures. It is a show that makes you feel things and starts touching your heart. It shows you what it is like to lose someone you care about & the true meaning of relationship with a human.
It is about friends and how you should use the time you have before it is gone forever. It is a story about time, and about vacation, so you should use the time you have because when you use it, there will not be any more time. What makes Frieren so great & iconic ? The fantasy story in this anime helps in portraying a range of emotions. It has many impacting moments of conversation and flashbacks of human life.
Every conversation, every flashback and every moment of silence has a lot of weight. These moments of conversation and flashback invite the viewer to emotionally connect to the story and it does not try to grab your attention with loud events. The storyline creates a strong connection between the viewer and Frieren because it presents meaningful conversation and flashbacks. We all have memories we shared with people we may never meet again. Frieren shows these emotions and feelings through a fantasy story.

However, Frieren asks something much more emotional questions : “What happens after the Journey?” Anime starts with a different perspective.
After defeating The Demon King, it initiates at the Victory Party of the Legendary Heroes. There is Frieren, a powerful mage, together with Himmel the hero, Heiter is the Priest, and Eisen the warrior, in the Legendary Heroes’ Party. Thousands of people throughout the nation regard these heroes as legendary heroes, and the 10-year adventure of The Legendary Heroes’ Party has become historical to the world.
While the humans of The Legendary Heroes’ Party remember the 10-year adventure because it has been the most wonderful and best times of their lives, Frieren who has lived for centuries sees the odyssey simply a short period in her very long life.
The perspective difference makes her not realize how important the friendships she made were. Years later when she met Himmel again many years later as an old man, she finally got it. After meeting with their friends they all watch the meteor shower. Himmel dies after this event and Frieren is very regretful that Himmel has died because she didn’t try to get to know him, despite spending ten years traveling together.
This feeling completely changes for her. Frieren’s journey started not with excitement and not with a will to do, but with loss and reflection. The anime does a turn on a fantasy story and it does so by making the emotional aftermath of the story more important than the victory. The way the creators have chosen the story to be told makes it really emotionally mature .The story is not about good versus evil, but rather about understanding people before time has made them gone forever .
Frieren: The Immortal Mage Carrying Centuries of LonelinessFrieren The Immortal Mage Who Has Lived Alone for Centuries Anime depicts Frieren with kindness, calmness, and mystery. She avoids showing her emotions. Frieren stands out from most fantasy protagonists, who seek validation. Frieren lives simply and looks at things differently, including all her views, which are very fascinating. Frieren’s calmness and kindness make her wonderful, her unique personality makes her an extraordinary character that attracts viewers to come and watch how she will deal with the reality of the world around her.
It makes her a lot more interesting. Frieren’s silent nature camouflages loneliness which has taken centuries to develop. As an elf, Frieren experiences time differently than humans do. Years and decades went by quickly while humans faded out, but she has not changed for all this time. This experience made that character almost emotionally disconnected from all attachments she can form with other people, as an attachment always leads to her watching her friends on their deathbed.
Frieren emotional barriers are part of her personality at the start of the anime but Himmel’s death helped her realize how important it is to have relationships. After Himmel’s death, she began to reinterpret memories she had always disregarded; conversations from the past that had always seemed so typical now represented missed chances to her. What makes her development a striking aspect of the anime is the subtlety with which that development takes place.
There are no sudden outbursts in her development nor exaggerated changes.Her progress shows up in little things like a fraction of a second taken to smile, a word of sorry, or a random act of kindness. These moments speak more than any big speech. With the progression of the anime, Frieren learns to recognize the people who are in it instead of the world. Another aspect of immortality is examined in a very thoughtful way. Generations come and go while a person is unchanged. This situation can be quite horrifying which will not be fixed by magic or mere time. The Frieren character development showcases this relationship.
Her story shows us that as much as life may or may not be immortal, it is the relationships that one shares, which gives meaning and purpose, because life won’t last forever.Himmel’s Legacy Lives Long After his death:Although Himmel died early in the story, it’s fair to say that the anime still includes him in almost every aspect. In many aspects, he is Frieren’s emotional soul despite being no longer alive.
Viewers are gradually learn and see that who Himmel is through flashbacks and memories. However, the protagonist of the fairy tale was dissimilar. He was something more than just the heroic knight who fights monsters. He deeply valued others’ kindness, compassion, and happiness. Himmel was one who, during his first journey out, appreciated the little things, stopped frequently to lend a helping hand or view the beautiful scenery that was along the way. In addition, he spent some time with his travelling companions, making memories.
There were many moments when Frieren had deemed those actions as useless. However, after his death, she begins to realize their significance.Journey means essence itself. It’s a pretty emotional understanding and has one of the most powerful emotional themes of anime. However, the protagonist of the fairy tale was dissimilar. People often fail to appreciate little moments until they become memories.After his death, Frieren still remains influenced by Himmel.
The memories he leaves is slowly shape and impact on Frieren’s feelings. He changes the way she sees things including life, relationship with people, time and more.Since Frieren continues her journey ,the memories of Himmel completely change the perspective of Frieren. Now she watches this world through a different lens . At this point we could understand the impact of Himmel’s Death in her life is so terrifying. The journey she once believed was just a small part of her long life and it is now more meaningful to her.
We also understand that what she had once thought as a short thing in her life is now more important than she had ever thought yet . But when she imagined about her friends, her past still continues to haunt her with full of regret. She soon meets some new friends that will completely change the way she views her future. The lonely mage, previously had struggled to understand human emotions and now finally about to learn & relate with others. At this point Frieren’s actual quest is about to start.
